PHANTOM

Pilot Biography:

Microsoft CFS:

I acquired MS CFS1 sometime around 2000 or 2001 and was drawn in by the challenge provided by flying in structured missions offline and keenly bought CFS2 with the chance for new aircraft and the most daunting of all - carrier operations on full realism. The handbook, usually the first thing to be discarded with most games provided nice histories and information on the aircraft and piqued my interest in the more realistic side of affairs and I began playing online in on the "zone" at full settings. I then discovered PACCOM. I noticed an ad on a website to do with the game and checked the page and it seemed to provide something very different - real campaigns on a good scale with real people as comrades and opponent.

I joined PACCOM, a CFS2 organisation, on 4th July 2002 and have been with the group and its successors ever since. I was posted to the 339th "Gremlins" Fighter Squadron in the Pacific flying 1% P40's and found it to be a most agreeable aircraft flying where ever possible even after I was posted to "chair force" jobs in at group and finally the 13th airforce.

Name change and the move to IL2:

PACCOM moved to the newly available IL2 sim from Ubisoft and changed its name to Joint Forces Command (JFC), or as a comrade of mine put it, 'Jolly Fine Comrades.' We had a good base of pilots and operated in both the Pacific and Europe. Having been an expert in the P40 in CFS, I found IL2 a huge challenge. It was hard to take off, my aircraft kept stalling and I couldn't hit anything. Perhaps for this reason I found myself drawn to the venerable Ju87 Stuka. Precision bombing was my game and when I had the chance - engaging Russian fighters who thought that such a fat bird couldn't fight. 20mm cannons hurt no matter from which aircraft they spring. The new calling I found in ground pounding was a revelation since that side of the sim was vastly improved from the CFS range. In fact when I tried CFS2 after a time - I simply could not fly it!
